Historically, three hosting options have been prevalent. The most fundamental is shared hosting, often referred to as web hosting. With shared hosting, you share server resources with numerous other clients. Next, there’s cloud hosting and virtual private servers (VPS). With these options, you receive a dedicated portion of server resources that are virtually assigned to you, either on a single server or within a group of servers (in the case of cloud hosting), where other websites and clients are also hosted. Lastly, there’s dedicated server hosting, where you have an entire server exclusively allocated to your use.
